Director of Programs & Facilities
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Status: Exempt

Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Programs & Facilities will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shelter and food programs, including, human resources, and facilities maintenance. Will work closely with the case managers, housing specialist and all shelter program staff to ensure clients engage in appropriate services and programs meet desired outcomes.

• Cultivate existing relationships with partner agencies, vendors, and community
resources, and participate in community events and activities as appropriate.
• Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among program areas.

Team Management and Development:

• Develop and implement a system to evaluate the skill, experience and professional development needs of all staff
• Implement a professional development program to address employee experience and skill gaps
• Work with staff to develop objective performance measurements across all program areas to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all employees
• Instill a sense of accountability among team members by modeling a tight oversight of individual and organization performance standards
• Assist Executive Director with the recruitment, hiring, and oversight of all staff members.

Program and Facilities Operational Management:

• Working cooperatively with the Soup Kitchen Manager, ensure accuracy of food bank statistics and insure timely monthly reports.
• Ensure maintenance, cleanliness and security of facility and compliance with public health food serve safe requirements.
• Receive daily reports on any issues raised in daily reports from shelter program staff and respond to issues as appropriate.
• Provide weekly updates to the Executive Director regarding census data, client issues, personnel concerns, or any other relevant issues or concerns that may impact the efficient and effective services to clients.
• Provide Program and Facilities status reports on a monthly basis for board packet mailing.
• As a member of the Senior Management Team, participate in regular Case Review meetings, establish and ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain monthly schedule for residential counselors.
• On-call for shelter and facilities issues as needed
• Perform other tasks as assigned.


This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with team management experience to grow and further develop proven programs. The successful candidate will lead programs, partner with the Executive Director and work collaboratively in a strong team environment. Specific requirements include:

• Minimum of Bachelor of Arts or Science, MA preferred.
• 5-8 years of experience or comparable combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated success in developing and evaluating program models and selecting and successfully putting innovative programs into operation.
• Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool
• Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching and retaining individuals, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance
• Deep understanding of human resources, employee performance improvement plans, and corrective action policies
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Beth-El Center's mission
• Strong sense of and respect for confidentiality.
• Must be open and non-judgmental, culturally sensitive and have a clear sense of boundaries.
• Self-starter who is able to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
• Able to lift moderate loads in order to assist with donations and to stock supplies and food as needed.
